Please join the law society for lunch at our summer event on Monday, August 1st at Arent Fox 1050 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. at noon. We will hear from Bill Atkin, Associate General Counsel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the subject "Freeing the Voice of Truth: A Sacred Mission of LDS Attorneys and Law Students." Bill Atkin is generally responsible for the delivery of legal services in connection with the international activities of the church. We are excited he is able to come from Salt Lake and speak to us about religious liberty.

April 19: Guantanamo Bay: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
On Tuesday, April 19 we will host a “Guantanamo Bay: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” panel discussion at the Barlow Center (2520 L Street, NW).
The panel will address the way law, politics and policy are shaping how decisions are being made regarding the detentions at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The panel, which will begin at noon, will feature Brent Rushforth, who currently represents several men held at Guantanamo Bay, and Andrew Borene, who has represented the Department of Defense in these cases. The panel will be moderated by Jon Eskelsen, who was deployed to Guantanamo Bay from 2006 - 2007.
One credit of Virginia CLE has been applied for.
Since this free event will be catered (sandwiches), please RSVP to events@jrclsdc.org if you would like to attend.
