Eighth Annual 
Religious Liberty Award Dinner

8th Annual International Religious Liberty Award Dinner on October 5, 2017.  

Ticket sales for the dinner are now closed.  Panels are free and open to the public--no tickets required.

This year's keynote speaker will be Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This year's award recipient is Baroness Elizabeth Berridge, who will be honored for her many years of support and work for religious liberty. 

A special musical number will be performed by Greg Brown, one of the famous Five Browns.

Winners of the 2017 Founding Fathers Student Writing Competition will also be recognized at the dinner.

This year's event will also include two consecutive panels held prior to the award dinner: "The Economic Impact of Religious Liberty," with panelists Brian J. Grim, Debbie Marriott Harrison, Paul Lambert and Nathan C. Walker, and "Promoting Religious Liberty Within Your Sphere of Influence," with panelists Elder Von G. Keetch, Tim Schultz and Montse Alvarado. The panels are open to the public and free of charge.

Panelists Biographies

Brian J. Grim, Ph.D., is the Founder and President of the Annapolis, Maryland-based Religious Freedom & Business Foundation and a leading expert on international religious demography and the socio-economic impact of restrictions on religious freedom. Dr. Grim holds a visiting professorship at St. Mary's University in London and also works closely with the United Nations "Business for Peace" platform.

Debbie Marriott Harrison, is Marriott International's Global Officer, Marriott Culture and Business Councils. Ms. Harrison has also served as Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and has held several other positions with the company since 1975, including accounting positions at corporate headquarters and operations positions at the Key Bridge and Dallas Marriott hotels.

Paul Lambert, is Assistant Dean at Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business. He also teaches classes on American Government and Politics. Mr. Lambert is also a Research & Development Consultant at the Religious Freedom Center of the Newseum Institute and a visiting lecturer at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

Nathan C. Walker (Ed.M., M.Div., M.A.), is Executive Director of 1791 Delegates, which supports organizations with strategic planning, fundraising, research, and educational programming on issues of religion and public life. He previously served as the Executive Director for the Religious Freedom Center of the Newseum Institute. He is the co-editor of the book Whose God Rules? Is the United States a Secular Nation or a Theolegal Democracy?

Elder Von G. Keetch, is a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and serves as the Executive Director of the Public Affairs Department. Elder Keetch has served as a judicial clerk to Chief Justice Warren E. Burger and Justice Antonin Scalia of the United States Supreme Court and practiced law at the Salt Lake City law firm of Kirton McConkie. He has also served in civic positions, including as Chair for the Utah Appellate Court Nominating Commission and as a member of the First Freedom Coalition.

Tim Schultz, is President of the 1st Amendment Partnership, which works to build faith alliances, guide public policy and educate key influencers on religious freedom issues. He has also served as State Legislative Director for the Ethics and Public Policy Center's American Religious Freedom Program. Mr. Schultz is widely viewed as a leading expert on religious freedom issues, with a particular focus on state policy issues.

Montse Alvarado, is Executive Director of Becket, a non-profit public-interest legal and educational institute with a mission to protect the free expression of all faiths. She is the current editor of AltFem Magazine, a platform for women of faith, was appointed to the Montgomery County Commission for Women in July 2011 and is a former member of the Board of Directors for Shepherd's Table, a homeless shelter in Silver Spring, Maryland.
